Connecticut Men's Basketball vs Providence

Photographs of the game January 17, 2008

Providence again demonstrated how inconsistant this Connecticut team is with a 77-65 spanking of the home team in the Hartford Civic Center. The Providence basketball team has been shooting well lately, but Thursday against UConn the Friars hit a new high with 14 3-pointers in its win over UConn. The 14 3-pointers were the most by one team in a Big East game so far this season. "If you're not defended, you'll make them," UConn coach Jim Calhoun quipped after the game. He may have put on a smile after the game but coach Calhoun had little to smile about during the 40 minute contest. Providence tied the record for the most 3-point field goals made against UConn in a Big East game. Seton Hall hit 14 against the Huskies on March 3, 2002, and Villanova hit 14 on Feb. 18, 1995. Somtimes it appeared that this was the first time Connecticut's team had ever played together with sloppy passing and a poorly executed offence.
